The story of how the Minnesota Veterans 4 Veterans Trust Fund was created is a unique one.
From Big Island Camp to Foundation

V4V was first established in early 2006 pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Section 197.133. The Statute required that the Trust be created upon the disposition of Big Island Veterans Camp—Lake Minnetonka, a Minnesota nonprofit corporation, of its interest in certain real estate located in Hennepin County, Minnesota (“Big Island”).
The Camp sold Big Island to the City of Orono, Minnesota, on January 5, 2006 for $5,700,000 (the “Purchase Price”). As required by the Statute, the balance of the Purchase Price remaining after payment of all fees related to the sale of Big Island was contributed to the Trust.
The Trust established was named the MN Veterans 4 Veterans (V4V) Trust Fund. The above statute required that the Trust Directors be appointed by the American Legion (AL), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Military order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
These Board members are staggered two year appointed terms whereby each year the State Commander will appoint or reappoint a member to serve, at the annual meeting held each September.
